UNC Charlotte’s Online Master’s in Nursing Program Ranked No. 21 in the Nation
UNC Charlotte’s online graduate nursing program received national recognition in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Online Programs rankings, which were released January 21.
The University is ranked No. 21 (tie), rising five spots from 2024, in the Best Online Master’s in Nursing programs and came in at No. 3 (tie) for Best Online Bachelor’s Degrees, which includes the Nursing (RN-to-BSN) program among nine other fully online programs. Schools are ranked according to their performance across five categories: engagement, faculty credentials and training, peer assessment, services and technologies, and student excellence.
“Our rise in the U.S. News Online Master’s Nursing program ranking combined with our recent rise in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is a testament to the variety and quality of our nursing degree options that meet students where they are,” said Susan McLennon, director of UNC Charlotte’s School of Nursing within the College of Health and Human Services. “We’re preparing our students for the workforce quicker and better than ever before.”
UNC Charlotte’s School of Nursing was among 12 UNC System public universities to receive dedicated funding to address North Carolina’s nursing workforce shortage. The School of Nursing received $2.4 million to expand the number of nursing students in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.
The funding has allowed for the creation of a new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and enabled the school to increase admissions to its Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner Across the Lifespan program.
To support higher enrollment, the School of Nursing has hired additional faculty members, a simulation technician, and an academic support advisor. Funding will also enhance the school’s Learning Resource Center where nursing students use state-of-the-art teaching tools such as high-fidelity patient simulators and virtual reality headsets.
