Athletic Training Students Achieve 100% Pass Rate on Certification Exam

For the first time, all of UNC Charlotte’s Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) students achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Exam.

Only students completing an accredited MSAT program can take the Board of Certification exam. The May 2025 graduation cohort was evaluated in five major practice domains:

  • Risk reduction, wellness and health literacy
  •  Assessment, evaluation and diagnosis
  • Critical incident management
  • Therapeutic intervention
  • Health care administration and professional responsibility

MSAT program director Professor Tricia Turner, Ph.D. credits the MSAT faculty in the Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences department within the College of Health and Human Services with this exam milestone. Five full-time faculty are devoted to UNC Charlotte’s athletic training program.

“We have outstanding teachers who are experts in the field and who truly care not only about what they teach but about each individual student. We take student success very seriously and want to do whatever we can to put students in a position to be successful,” Turner said.

Turner also credits the program’s success to the variety of clinical opportunities on site at the University and off site throughout the Charlotte region. Additionally, students have myriad opportunities outside of Charlotte for immersive rotations. “We want to place students in their desired employment setting,” Turner said.

Graduates from the University’s MSAT program provide patient-focused injury prevention, clinical care, recovery and rehabilitation for professional and collegiate sports teams, medical clinics, health agencies, hospitals, high schools, research labs, and other settings.
