Guldmann Donation
Jim Hersh, Mid-Atlantic Lift, demonstrates the use of the Overhead Lift System at the School of Nursing.
The School of Nursing, UNC Charlotte, would like to thank Guldmann, Inc. and Mid-Atlantic Lift, Inc. for their generous donation of an Overhead Lift System to the School’s Learning Laboratories, valued at $7,000. Containing a motor with a 7700 lb. lifting capacity and integrated scale, the lift will allow students to be educated in safe patient handling and movement (SPM) and prepare them for their first employment in local hospitals. In addition, the nursing laboratory will serve as a display and demonstration site for surrounding hospitals and health care facilities that have heard of the equipment, but have not seen an actual installed unit or been shown its full use.
Back pain is a common and serious problem among nurses and nurse aides. By incorporating ceiling lifts into medical facilities, nurses and patients benefit by a reduction in injuries. Further, patient comfort and security is increased during transfers out of hospital beds.
Director of Learning Resource Center, Julie Fuselier, and nursing students gather around the lift and show their appreciation for the generous donation from Guldmann, Inc. and Mid-Atlantic Lift, Inc.
