Academic Advisor
CHHS Advising Center

I joined UNC Charlotte and CHHS as an Academic Advisor in July of 2024. My journey to higher education is slightly different than most in that I began my career in education teaching high school Spanish. I taught in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for 14 years, where I taught Spanish, levels I – IB IV, and English as a Second Language (ESL). I also taught Spanish at Central Piedmont Community College through their Corporate and Continuing Education Department where I taught adult learners from a variety of professional backgrounds. I have extensive experience working with students from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and cultures and I am passionate about helping all students find their place in this crazy world.

Degrees

I graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Spanish Language and Culture, with a minor in Psychology. I recently earned my Master of Science degree in Higher Education, with a concentration in Student Affairs from Purdue University Global.

Advice to Students

Take risks. Do not be afraid to fail. You could miss out on an amazing opportunity for growth. But do not wait until you are drowning to ask for a life preserver (ie. help from your advisors!) One of the best life skills that you can learn in college is becoming your own best advocate. It will serve you well after graduation. Also, get involved! Engagement in campus activities will be essential to your success here at UNC Charlotte! You are now part of an amazing community, so get out there and join the fun!

About Me

I am one of the few natives of Charlotte and a proud military spouse of an Army National Guard soldier. We have been married for 5 ½  years, and he was deployed for 2 ½ of them. Needless to say, we soak up as much time together as we can. That typically involves grilling out with our family, watching movies, binge watching Blue Bloods, checking out a new restaurant, and playing with our furry kids. We have 4 human “children”, all of whom are adults now, and 3 fur babies. Needless to say, the animals are more work than the kids! But at least they’re cute!

I cannot wait to help YOU find YOUR place here at CHHS!
